Trading Cards

Dutch alpaca card Dutch llama card Dutch guanaco card
The set of three cards above are from a Dutch card set entitled
”Apen En Hoefdieren En Artis” (Apes and Hoofed Animals in Artis Zoo).

They show and alpaca (with blue eyes), a llama, and a guanaco
and were issued in 1940 coming in packs of Dutch cookies.

They were kindly sent to us by John K. Smith of Whangarei, New Zealand
who also sent us the following three cards.


Danish llama card Danish vicuna card
The llamas and vicuña above are from a Danish series of cards
called ”Gyr I Nautran” and were inserted in packs of Danish coffee in 1955.

New Zealand vicuna card
The vicuña card above is from a series of cards called ”Animals of the World”
and came from cereal packets in New Zealand around 1959.


llama carrying the mail card



This card was issued in France by Chocolat Carpentier
(Chocolate, Cocoa and Tea) in the early 1900s.

It is an unnumbered card from a series of cards depicting
“The Post in Many Lands”.

The front of the card shows an artist drawn representation
of a scene in Bolivia with a llama carrying the mail,
while the back of the card has descriptive text.



The World of Mammals card





This card was issued in France by
D’Aiguebelle (chocolate) in the 1920s.
It is from a series of cards entitled
“Le Monde des Mammiferes”
(The World of Mammals).



Liebig card Liebig card


Liebig #602, Beasts of Burden

The original German title is
“Last- und Nutztiere”

It is from a set of six cards issued in 1899.









Liebig #58, Mountain Animals

The original German title is
“Tiere im Hochgebirge”

It is from a set of six cards issued in 1909.




Curiosities of America card


This relatively scarce card was issued in Argentina
by Compania Nobleza de Tabacos around 1930.
It is from a set cards entitled “Curiosidades de America”
(Curiosities of America).


Paraguay gum card



This card was issued in the U.S.A. by American Chewing Products in the 1940s. It is from a set of 30 cards known as “Flags”. The front of the card shows the flag of Paraguay.

The card was given as a premium
with the purchase of a pack of gum.



Pinkerton Coffee card
