Whipsnade Zoo card

The back side of this card reads:

“Life at Whipsnade Zoo”

LLAMA WITH YOUNG

The llama, a relative of the camels, is a native of Peru, where it has been kept in large numbers as a domestic animal from early times. This mother and young one, photographed at Whipsnade Zoo, eye the cameraman with a haughty stare and an aspect of dignity which would never lead one to suspect them capable of rudeness, yet the llama when annoyed is apt to show it resentment in a most unpleasant manner, namely by spitting at the spectator! This couple, however, look far too nice to indulge in such ill-mannered behaviour.
